Our Commitment
Plan with Grace is committed to ensuring that our platform is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe that guidance and support during bereavement should never be out of reach because of a barrier in our technology.
We are actively working to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, as referenced by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the broader Accessible Canada Act. This is an ongoing effort, and we welcome feedback at any stage.
What We're Doing
We are taking the following steps to improve accessibility across the platform:
Keyboard navigation: We are auditing and improving keyboard navigation so that all features of the Service can be operated without a mouse or trackpad.
Screen reader support: We use semantic HTML and ARIA attributes to ensure that screen readers (such as NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver) can correctly interpret and convey the content and structure of our pages.
Colour contrast: Our design system is built with sufficient contrast ratios between text and background colours to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. We test new components against contrast requirements before release.
Resizable text: Our interface is designed to remain usable when text is enlarged up to 200% via browser zoom, without loss of content or functionality.
Alternative text: Images that convey meaning include descriptive alternative text. Decorative images are marked appropriately so that screen readers skip them.
Focus indicators: Interactive elements have visible focus indicators so that keyboard users can track where they are on the page.
Form accessibility: Our forms include properly associated labels, error messages, and descriptive help text to assist users who rely on assistive technology.
Known Limitations
We acknowledge that there are areas of the platform that do not yet fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA. These include:
- Some legacy components in the marketing pages that may have insufficient colour contrast in certain states
- Grace's AI chat interface, which is being improved for better screen reader interaction
- PDF documents in the Document Centre, which may not be fully accessible depending on the source file
We are actively working to address these gaps. If you encounter a barrier not listed here, please let us know.
Assistive Technologies We Support
We test our platform with the following assistive technologies:
- NVDA with Firefox (Windows)
- JAWS with Chrome (Windows)
- VoiceOver with Safari (macOS and iOS)
- TalkBack with Chrome (Android)
If you use a different assistive technology and encounter issues, please contact us — we want to know.
Technical Specifications
Plan with Grace is built using technologies that support accessibility, including:
- HTML5 semantic markup
- WAI-ARIA roles, properties, and states where native HTML semantics are insufficient
- CSS that does not override user browser preferences for motion or contrast where possible
- React with server-side rendering for improved initial page load and compatibility
